Conflict of interest policy

This is a translation. The French version is the legally binding text and prevails in case of discrepancy.

This policy governs situations in which a personal, financial or professional interest could influence, or appear to influence, the work of the Guinea Financial Review newsroom.
Declaration
- Members of the management and newsroom declare their positions, shareholdings, business relationships, paid outside activities and family ties that could create a conflict.
- Declarations are kept in a register reviewed at least every six months; public declarations appear in the register of interests.
Recusal
- A journalist does not cover a subject that concerns one of their declared interests; the story is assigned to another member of the newsroom.
- Outside contributors (experts, op-eds) declare their ties with the companies or institutions they write about; the statement is published with their text.
Affiliated entities and business relationships
- When a company or institution has a business relationship with entities affiliated with the publication’s shareholder, a transparency notice is displayed automatically on its profile in the company directory.
- Such a relationship gives no right to review, commission or change an article.
Gifts, invitations and travel
Newsroom members accept no gift or benefit likely to influence their judgement. An invitation or trip paid for by a third party is disclosed in the resulting article.
Sponsored content and advertising
The newsroom is separate from advertising sales: paid content is always labelled as such and is never written by the newsroom. See Advertisers and partners and the editorial charter.
Reporting a conflict
Anyone who believes an article is affected by a conflict of interest can report it using the complaint form.
