This page explains where the figures published by Guinea Financial Review come from, how they are updated and how to cite them.
Principles
- A published figure always comes with its source, its date and its unit.
- An estimate, a forecast or a demonstration value is never presented as an established fact.
- When a source revises a value, the new value replaces the old one and the update date is shown.
Sources of the data shown on the site
- Macroeconomic indicators (growth, inflation, population…): World Bank database, collected automatically; each indicator shows its year and the date of the source’s latest update.
- Exchange rates: indicative rates from an open service that aggregates public sources. They are not the official rates of the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG), which prevail for any transaction.
- Commodities and stock markets: gold (gold-api.com), Brent crude (US Energy Information Administration, EIA), iron ore and other commodities (World Bank “Pink Sheet”), BRVM indices. Prices may be delayed.
- Company directory: each profile cites the official source that establishes the company’s existence and status (regulator’s list, EITI report, company website) and its verification date.
- Press review: headlines and links from the media we follow, collected automatically; their content is the responsibility of each outlet.
Checking figures in articles
Figures quoted in an article are checked before publication as part of the newsroom’s validation process. A reported error is corrected; a substantial correction is published as a dated correction notice below the article and on the Corrections page.
