Reading the website
No account is needed to read free articles. The website uses no third-party audience measurement tool, no advertising cookie and no social media tracker. The server keeps technical logs (IP address, page requested, date) needed for the security and proper operation of the service.
Morning Brief
Email address, language, and proof of your consent (date, version of the text accepted, truncated IP address). The address is stored encrypted. Purpose: sending you the daily newsletter. Legal basis: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time through the unsubscribe link in every issue.
Reader account and subscription
Name, email address, password (stored as a hash, never in plain text), language, country, date of acceptance of the terms; for subscribers: offer, subscription dates, payments (amount, reference, status) and invoices. Purposes: managing your account, your subscription and invoicing. Legal basis: performance of the contract and our accounting obligations.
Payment takes place with our payment provider (CinetPay): we neither receive nor store any bank card data or mobile money credentials.
Contacts
Messages sent to the newsroom or to the subscriptions department are used to reply to you.
Recipients and processors
- LWS (hosting of the website and email, data centres in France);
- CinetPay (subscription payments);
- our email delivery service, for the Morning Brief and account-related messages.
Your data is never sold, rented or transferred for advertising purposes. The artificial intelligence assistant used by the newsroom receives no reader data (see Use of AI).
Retention periods
- Morning Brief: for as long as you are subscribed; proof of consent kept for three years after unsubscribing;
- reader account: until it is closed;
- payments and invoices: ten years (accounting obligations);
- technical and security logs: only as long as strictly necessary for the security of the service, with IP addresses truncated in audit logs.
Cookies and local storage
The website only uses strictly necessary items, which do not require consent:
- a session cookie (keeping you signed in to your account, form security);
- a cookie protecting against cross-site request forgery (XSRF-TOKEN);
- your choice of light or dark theme, kept in your browser (local storage, never transmitted).
Videos hosted by YouTube or Vimeo are only loaded when you click “play”; these services may then set their own cookies, under their own policies.
Security
Encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords stored as hashes, newsletter addresses encrypted, newsroom access protected by two-factor authentication and an audit log.
Your rights

Proof of identity may be requested. You may also refer the matter to the competent data protection authority.
